Parent Survey 2022

Our latest Parent Survey was carried out during the summer of 2025. It's terrific to see so many positive comments from parents and carers regarding Holbrook Primary School and the results give us much to celebrate. We will also be using the comment and suggestions to further improve the school in the future so thank you so much to everyone who took the time to complete it.

In addition, there were two other questions about SEND and raising concerns, which are not included above due to the small number involved.  However, it is pleasing to note that the majority of parents who did provide feedback here indicating that SEND pupils have the support they need to succeed and any parental concerns are dealt with effectively.

Feedback included the following positive comments;

We have enjoyed a wonderful time at Holbrook and find the curriculum and teachers excellent.   Our son is very happy.

Overall, we are very happy with this school. The team, and teachers seem lovely. They listen to our concerns and are empathetic. As of yet, can't fault them. Keep up the good work.

Class teacher has been excellent at promptly responding to any concerns or queries.

Holbrook communication is very good and there is plenty of opportunity for parent courses.

Still absolutely fantastic in all areas!

Our child has had a great time at the school and really enjoyed it.

We are very happy that our daughter attends Holbrook and think it is a wonderful school with an excellent team of staff.

The governors and I have been analysing the results and identifying what we can learn from them to further the development of the school.  A good school needs to be constantly looking at itself and reviewing its procedures and your opinions form an important part of that process.  It is also important to listen to concerns and areas in which the school could be performing even better.  Please find our response to these and other issues raised in the comments section of the survey.

Extra-curricular activities offered

This area improved from last year - 83% to and 86% satisfaction rating.  Holbrook continues to provide a wide range of clubs and activities for children.  During the last year we ran internal clubs including choir, film, reading, chess, eco, colouring, homework, mindfulness, cricket, sign language, netball, maths masters, play leader, art, cookery, yoga and craft.  The vast majority of teachers offer at least one club/activity at a minimal cost during the year, which is supplemented by an increasing variety of approved external clubs, where charges vary.

Most of the clubs are aimed at older children, as we recognise that very young children can be tired and lack concentration at the end of a busy day’s learning.  However, we are always looking to accommodate requests if the demand is there.  Please contact the school office if you have any suggestions.

Providing the right amount of information about my child’s learning and academic progress

At the start of the year we hold Curriculum information meetings for parents that outline the year ahead.  This information is also uploaded to the school website for those parents unable to attend.  Also, on the website are each year group’s curriculum overviews which provide further detail for each curriculum area.  Curriculum letters are sent at the start of each term and Seesaw is another source of information, which is also a two-way form of communication including the opportunity for children and parents to update the school on any out of school achievements.

There are two Parent Consultation meetings in the autumn and spring term and we send an annual written report home in the summer term.  We do not have the capacity to increase the number of reports or consultation evenings, but class teachers are happy to discuss a child’s learning and progress at any point during the year, so please make contact via the usual channels to make an appointment.  Again, please contact the school office with any suggestions that you feel could improve this.

Home learning is reasonable and supports my child’s learning

This is an area that divides opinion in many parent surveys, from those who think it is insufficient and those who think it is too much.  Home learning is important as it can act as a bridge between home and school and encourage children and parents to work together, as well as helping children develop good study habits, their time management skills, and a range of independent learning skills.  Research has shown that a positive attitude to home learning at primary level can shape children’s attitudes at secondary school, so the positive effects of home learning can be long term.

At Holbrook we believe that home learning should focus on key skills and mirror learning that has been taking place in the classroom. It should also be manageable – challenging but not too difficult.  The main areas cover the core skills of Reading, Mathematics and Phonics, Spellings and Handwriting.  It is age-appropriate, so that Reception children start with daily reading and a phonic focus and our Year 6 pupils have a Reading task, a Grammar/spelling activity and a Maths activity, which prepares them for their KS2 SATs and secondary school.
