Class Organisation - School Year 2004 - 2005 |
| |
| In Key Stage 1 |
 |
|
There are two classes in
Reception, Y1 and Y2, the classes being as evenly balanced as
possible. The classes are usually kept to below 30 but in
extreme circumstances and for a variety of reasons we sometimes
exceed 30 in Key Stage 1. The children spend most of their time
with their class teacher and classroom assistants working as a
whole class, as individuals or in groups. The groups may be
selected by ability particularly in mathematics, or they may be
mixed ability or based on friendships. All groups are flexible
allowing children to move between groups as appropriate. |
| |
| In Key Stage 2 |
|
There are
two parallel classes for Y3,Y4,Y5 and Y6 children. The children
spend most of their time with their own class teacher using a
balance of class, individual and group work. Some ability
grouping in mathematics involves ‘setting’ between classes and
some movement of children and teachers. This enables children to
study with others of similar aptitude to maximise learning gain.
At KS2 children sometimes work with different teachers to take
advantage of individual teachers’ special areas of expertise,
e.g. in music, I.C.T and Modern Foreign Languages. |
| |
|
Every
class has a timetable to ensure a balanced use of time across
the curriculum and to provide each class with weekly access to
shared resources such as the hall, studio, I.C.T suite, etc. We
provide a broad and balanced curriculum with many subjects
linking to provide a cross-curricular approach. We have regular,
well planned ‘themed’ weeks covering a range of subjects. In
both Key Stages we have specialist teachers to teach Modern
Foreign Languages. |
